The Bots are two brothers from Glendale, California combining blues with an 80s punk twist to create something refreshing and raw that is set to take your ears by storm. Merely teenagers, Mikaiah Lei, 18, and Anaiah Lei, 15, have already recorded a full length album and two, two track singles. Their first self titled album complete with 10 original songs and a cover of the Yeah Yeah Yeah's - Art Star was recorded in 2009 at Paramount Ameraycan Studios in Hollywood, California. In 2011 they ventured onto the road with the Vans Warped Tour and received rave reviews throughout each stop.
The Bots cite a few of their influences as Arctic Monkeys and Arcade Fire but after hearing their music these influences come as a surprise. The vocal work sounds like it belongs to Dexter Holland of The Offspring in the days of Smash and the instrumental side of things belongs to the rugged punk era of the 70/80s. The scuzzy and unrefined guitar work The Bots use has helped create their own unique sound. The aggression with the drumming also adds to their punk vibe.
The emotion and meaning that goes into the lyrics makes it hard to believe that the two brothers are just teenagers. They are already writing songs that seem beyond their years and we were actually quite shocked when we discovered their ages. Although the lyrics are quite simple they're easy to relate too and keep in touch with The Bots' sound.
The Bots are set to play a major role in punk revival and with the songs they already have under their belts their talent is going to get them far. If you haven't heard them yet we urge you to listen and take notice of them!
